The best tool for making videos in Bengali depends on the job. For a drawn explainer or lesson from your own notes, a document-first tool such as openCanviz drafts scenes and narration, and you can record the Bengali voice yourself if the generated one sounds wrong. For an AI presenter, HeyGen lists separate voices for Bengali (India) and Bangla (Bangladesh), and Synthesia lists Bengali for video translation. NotebookLM makes Video Overviews in Bengali. YouTube can auto-dub English videos into Bengali and Bengali videos into English. For voice alone, Sarvam Bulbul handles Benglish, and ElevenLabs's v3 model and Clipchamp both list Bengali. Decide first whether your viewers are in Kolkata or Dhaka, because the voice should match.

Two audiences, one script

Bengali is spoken by more than two hundred million people, most of them in Bangladesh and the rest mainly in West Bengal, Tripura and Assam's Barak Valley. Written standard Bengali is shared, so a script often works for both. The spoken sound is not shared, and neither is all of the vocabulary.

A science explainer about the water cycle that says জল will sound slightly off to a Dhaka student, and one that says পানি will sound slightly off in Kolkata. Many Bangladeshi teachers use পানি in speech even where a textbook uses জল in a compound word (জলবায়ু, climate, is used on both sides). Pick your audience, write the script for it, and choose a voice with the matching accent.

Drawn explainers and lessons

openCanviz. You paste notes, a script or a document, set a target length, and it drafts chapters, narration and a drawing for each point, in styles such as whiteboard, doodle on paper, painted, cutout and poster. Every scene can be edited. Narration can be set to other languages; for Bengali, preview one scene before building the rest, and if the generated voice sounds off (wrong stress, a flat reading, the wrong regional sound for your viewers), record your own narration and replace it, which openCanviz supports. Keep my wording narrates your script exactly, so জল or পানি stays as you wrote it. Keep on-screen words to a few per scene and check how the Bengali text looks in each one. It is free to start, and free videos carry a watermark. It works best for processes and cause and effect: the steps of photosynthesis for a Class 10 biology chapter, or the causes of the 1905 Partition of Bengal for a history project.

NotebookLM Video Overviews. Google's NotebookLM turns uploaded sources into a narrated overview video, and since August 2025 it has offered Video Overviews in 80 languages, Bengali included. It needs almost no input and is useful for summarising a chapter for your own revision. The limit is control: when one part is wrong, you mostly regenerate rather than fix that scene.

AI presenters

HeyGen. Avatar-led video with a strong translation tool. Its language lists include Bengali (India) and Bangla (Bangladesh) as separate entries, which is the most direct way to get the right accent for each audience. Its video translation can take a video of someone speaking and produce a Bengali version, with or without lip sync, and lets you correct terms in the translated script.

Synthesia. Business video with an AI presenter. It lists Bengali among its supported languages for video translation. Check that the specific voice and avatar you want are available in Bengali before planning a whole training course around them, since coverage differs between features.

Dubbing and captions

YouTube auto dubbing. In YouTube Studio, an English video can be auto-dubbed into Bengali, and a Bengali video can be dubbed into English. For a Bengali channel, that is a way to reach English-speaking viewers; for an English channel, a way to reach Bengali ones. You can review or remove each dubbed track in the Languages section. The dubbed voice is plain rather than expressive for Bengali at present.

YouTube automatic captions. Bengali is supported. Check every name, date and technical term, because automatic captions in any language get these wrong, and fix them in YouTube Studio.

Voice on its own

Sarvam Bulbul. A text to speech model from Sarvam AI, built for Indian languages, Bengali among them. It handles code-mixed speech, and Sarvam mentions Benglish by name. Its voices are Indian, so test them carefully for a Bangladeshi audience.

ElevenLabs. Bengali is supported in the Eleven v3 model. The older Multilingual v2 model does not list it, so check which model you are using before judging the voice.

Clipchamp. Microsoft's browser editor has a text to speech tool whose language list includes both Bengali and Bangla. Useful if you are assembling your own clips and slides.

AI4Bharat models. AI4Bharat at IIT Madras has released free, open-source text to speech models covering Bengali and other Indian languages, including Indic Parler-TTS. They need technical setup, so they suit a college project team more than a teacher on a deadline.

Fonts. For your own on-screen text, use a font built for Bengali script. Google Fonts has Hind Siliguri, Noto Sans Bengali, Baloo Da 2 and Tiro Bangla, among others.

Three Bengali tests to run before you commit

Every tool above says it supports Bengali. These tests take ten minutes and show the difference.

1. The Benglish test. Real Bengali teaching mixes in English terms. Give each voice this line:

"আজ আমরা supply আর demand-এর graph দেখব, আর বুঝব price কেন বদলায়।"

Does the voice move into the English words smoothly, or pause and change accent at each one? And does it sound like Kolkata or like Dhaka? If you cannot tell, ask someone from your audience to listen.

2. The conjunct test. Bengali has many conjuncts (যুক্তাক্ষর), and several vowel signs sit to the left of the consonant (কি, কে) or wrap around it (কো). Some editors and text engines break these into separate pieces. Type these as on-screen text: বিজ্ঞান, সালোকসংশ্লেষণ, উৎপাদন, অর্থনীতি, স্ত্রী. Look at the জ্ঞ, the ৎ, the reph (the small mark above in অর্থ) and the vowel sign positions. If any word looks broken, every label in your video will.

3. The digits test. Bengali has its own digits, and both West Bengal and Bangladesh textbooks use them. Give the voice "১৯৫২ সালের ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি", the same date in Western digits "1952 সালের 21 ফেব্রুয়ারি", and an amount like "৳২,৫০,০০০". Some voices read Bengali digits well and stumble on Western ones, or the reverse, and some read 2,50,000 as two hundred and fifty thousand rather than আড়াই লাখ. History and economics content lives or dies on this test.

A worked example: 21 February in two minutes

A Class 9 history explainer on the Language Movement is a good test project for any tool, because it has dates, names and a cause and effect chain. A six scene outline:

  1. 1948: Muhammad Ali Jinnah declares in Dhaka that Urdu alone will be the state language of Pakistan.
  2. Why that mattered: most people in East Bengal spoke Bengali.
  3. Protests grow among students in Dhaka through 1948 to 1952.
  4. 21 February 1952: police open fire on students protesting near Dhaka Medical College; Salam, Barkat, Rafiq and Jabbar are among those killed.
  5. 1956: Bengali is recognised as a state language of Pakistan.
  6. 1999: UNESCO declares 21 February International Mother Language Day.

That is roughly 300 spoken words, two minutes at a normal pace. Every scene has a date and at least one name, which is exactly where a drafted video goes wrong, so check each against your textbook. For how to draw a chain of causes rather than a list of events, see how to make a history explainer video.

Make it

  1. 1

Pick your audience and your row

West Bengal or Bangladesh, then explainer, presenter, dubbing, voice only or captions. Compare only tools in the same row.

  2. 2

Write the script in their Bengali

Choose jol or pani, decide which terms stay in English, and decide between Bengali and Western digits. About 150 spoken words a minute is a fair guide.

  3. 3

    Run the three tests

The Benglish line, the five conjunct words and the digits. Drop any tool that fails the test that matters for your subject.

  4. 4

For a drawn explainer, paste and keep your wording

In openCanviz, paste the script, choose Keep my wording, pick whiteboard or doodle on paper, set the length, and preview one scene with narration first.

  5. 5

Record your own voice if it sounds off

If the generated Bengali voice has the wrong accent or stumbles, record the narration on a phone in a quiet room and replace it.

  6. 6

Check every label, date and name

Pause on each scene. Keep on-screen words few, read every one, and fix broken conjuncts or wrong dates in the editor.

Common questions

Can one video serve both West Bengal and Bangladesh? Often, if the script avoids the words that differ and the voice is neutral enough. For a channel aimed at one side, write for that side. If you need both, make the video once, adjust the few words that differ for the second version, and record or generate its narration.

Which tool has a Bangladeshi accent? HeyGen lists Bangla (Bangladesh) separately from Bengali (India), and Clipchamp lists both Bengali and Bangla. Test them with the Benglish line and ask a Dhaka listener. Your own recorded voice is the safest option.

Should I write the narration in Bengali script? Yes, with English terms left in English. Voices read Bengali script far more reliably than Bengali typed in Roman letters ("aaj amra dekhbo").

Are AI-made Bengali videos allowed on YouTube? Yes. YouTube's concern is mass-produced, repetitive content with no original contribution. A lesson built from your own notes, in your own words, is original work whichever tool drew or voiced it.

Run the digits test first

Paste 1952 sal-er 21 February in Bengali digits into the voice you are considering and listen. If it fumbles the date, it will fumble every year and number in your lesson, so record those scenes in your own voice. It is free to start.
