Best Tools for Making Videos in Marathi
Marathi video tools sorted by job, and the trap that matters most: Marathi shares Devanagari with Hindi, so a tool that supports Hindi can still read Marathi like Hindi. Which tools list Marathi, where YouTube dubbing stops, and four tests to run first.

The best tool for making videos in Marathi depends on the job. For a drawn explainer or lesson from your own notes, a document-first tool such as openCanviz drafts the scenes and narration, and you can record the Marathi voice yourself if the generated one sounds like Hindi. For an AI presenter, HeyGen lists a Marathi voice and Marathi video translation, and Synthesia lists Marathi for translation. NotebookLM makes Video Overviews in Marathi. YouTube's automatic captions support Marathi, but its auto dubbing does not. For voice alone, Sarvam Bulbul, ElevenLabs's v3 model and Clipchamp all list Marathi. Test every tool on Marathi sounds and letters that Hindi does not have.
The Devanagari trap
Marathi and Hindi are written in the same script, and that causes a specific problem. A voice or text engine built mainly for Hindi will accept Marathi text without complaint and then read it, or draw it, the Hindi way. The result is a video that is technically in Marathi and sounds wrong to every Marathi listener within one sentence.
Three things differ, and each needs testing:
| What differs | Example | What goes wrong |
| Sounds Hindi does not use | च and ज are often pronounced ts and dz in Marathi, as in चहा (tea) | A Hindi-trained voice reads चहा with a ch sound |
| Letters Hindi rarely uses | ळ in शाळा, बाळ, दळणवळण, and the eyelash ra in दुसऱ्या, तऱ्हा | Missing glyph boxes, or ळ read as ल |
| Preferred letter shapes | Traditional Marathi forms of अ, झ, ल and श differ from the Hindi forms | Labels look like a Hindi textbook, which Marathi readers notice |
The third one is mostly a font question. Some fonts are designed with Marathi preferences, such as Tiro Devanagari Marathi on Google Fonts. Mukta, Baloo 2, Kalam (a handwritten style that suits whiteboard-style text) and Noto Sans Devanagari also cover Marathi letters, including ळ.
Sort the tools by job
| Job | What you start with | Tools to look at |
| Drawn explainer or lesson | Notes, a script or a document | openCanviz, NotebookLM Video Overviews |
| AI presenter on screen | A script | HeyGen, Synthesia |
| Translate an existing video into Marathi | A finished video of someone speaking | HeyGen |
| Voice only, edit yourself | A script | Sarvam Bulbul, ElevenLabs, Clipchamp, AI4Bharat models |
| Captions on your own recording | A video with Marathi speech | YouTube automatic captions |
Find your row before comparing. A Pune teacher making SSC science chapter videos, an MPSC coaching channel, a farming channel explaining drip irrigation, and a Mumbai company translating its safety training are four different buyers.
Drawn explainers and lessons
openCanviz. You paste notes, a script or a document, set a target length, and it drafts chapters, narration and a drawing for each point, in styles including whiteboard, doodle on paper, painted, cutout and poster. Every scene can be edited afterwards. Narration can be set to other languages; for Marathi, preview one scene before building the rest, because a generated voice can drift into Hindi pronunciation. If it does, record your own narration and replace the generated voice, which openCanviz supports. Keep my wording narrates your script exactly as written. Keep on-screen words to a few per scene and check that ळ and the eyelash ra appear correctly in every label. It is free to start, and free videos carry a watermark. If you also teach in Hindi, the Hindi-language guide हिंदी में एक्सप्लेनर वीडियो कैसे बनाएं covers that version.
NotebookLM Video Overviews. NotebookLM turns uploaded sources into a narrated overview video, and Google has listed Marathi among the 80 languages for Video Overviews since August 2025. It is useful for a quick summary of a chapter for your own revision. The limit is control: if a scene is wrong you mostly regenerate rather than fix that one scene.
AI presenters and translation
HeyGen. Avatar-led video. Its voice list and its video translation list both include Marathi (India). Translation takes an existing video of someone speaking and produces a Marathi version, with or without lip sync, and lets you correct terms in the translated script. Read that script carefully: machine translation into Marathi often borrows Hindi words where a Marathi speaker would use a different one.
Synthesia. Business video with an AI presenter. It lists Marathi among its supported languages for video translation. Check that the voice and avatar you want are available in Marathi specifically before committing to a series, because coverage differs between features.
Where YouTube helps, and where it stops
Automatic captions: yes. YouTube's automatic captions support Marathi. Check every proper noun, every number and every technical term, and correct them in YouTube Studio.
Auto dubbing: no. YouTube's auto dubbing languages include Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Punjabi, but Marathi is not on the list in either direction. An English channel cannot auto-dub into Marathi, and a Marathi channel cannot auto-dub into English. If you need both languages, make the second narration yourself: switch the narration language and check the result, or record it.
Voice on its own
Sarvam Bulbul. A text to speech model from Sarvam AI in Bengaluru, built for Indian languages, Marathi included, and designed to handle English words inside Indian-language sentences. Because it was trained on Indian speech, it is the first one to test for the च and ज sounds.
ElevenLabs. Marathi is supported in the Eleven v3 model. The older Multilingual v2 model does not list it, so check which model is selected before judging the voice.
Clipchamp. Microsoft's browser editor includes a text to speech tool whose language list includes Marathi. Handy when you are assembling clips and slides yourself.
AI4Bharat models. AI4Bharat at IIT Madras has released free, open-source text to speech models covering Marathi and other Indian languages, including Indic Parler-TTS. They need technical setup, which suits an engineering college project team more than a teacher with a lesson due tomorrow.
Four tests to run before you commit
1. The Marathi sounds test. Give each voice this line:
"आज आपण चहाच्या मळ्यात काम कसं चालतं ते पाहूया, आणि शाळेतल्या मुलांना ते सोप्या भाषेत समजावूया."
Listen to चहा and the च in चालतं: ts or ch? Listen to ळ in मळ्यात and शाळेतल्या: a proper retroflex ळ, or a plain ल? If you hear Hindi, every scene will sound like Hindi.
2. The mixed-language test. Most Marathi teaching and creator speech uses English terms. Try:
"आज आपण supply आणि demand चा graph बघणार आहोत, आणि price का बदलते ते समजून घेऊ."
Does the voice move into the English words smoothly, or pause at each one?
3. The rendering test. Type these as on-screen text: शाळा, दुसऱ्या, दळणवळण, प्रकाशसंश्लेषण, क्षेत्रफळ. Check the ळ, the eyelash ra in दुसऱ्या, and the conjuncts. If any of them breaks into pieces or shows a box, change the font or the tool.
4. The numbers test. Maharashtra State Board textbooks often use Devanagari digits. Give the voice "६ जून १६७४", the same date as "6 जून 1674", and "₹२,५०,०००". Some voices read Devanagari digits poorly, read years digit by digit, or read 2,50,000 as two hundred and fifty thousand instead of अडीच लाख.
A worked example: a Class 7 history scene list
Shivaji Maharaj's coronation is a typical Marathi-medium history topic, and a good first project for testing a tool, because it has dates, places and names that a drafted video can get wrong. A five scene outline for a two minute video:
- Shivaji Maharaj builds a kingdom in the Sahyadri hills through the 1640s to 1670s, holding forts such as Torna, Rajgad and Raigad.
- Why a formal coronation mattered: it declared an independent kingdom, the Swarajya, to other rulers.
- 6 June 1674: the coronation at Raigad, with Gaga Bhatt from Varanasi performing the ceremony.
- The title Chhatrapati, and the new era and coinage that followed.
- What it changed for the Maratha state that followed.
Write it in Marathi, about 300 spoken words, with each date in the form your textbook uses. Then check every date, place and name against the textbook before anyone watches it. If the video is going to be handed in and marked, rather than watched for revision, how to make a video for a school project covers what teachers look for.
Make it
- 1
Pick your row
Explainer, presenter, translation, voice only or captions. Compare only tools in the same row.
- 2
Write the script in Marathi, not Hindi
Read it aloud once and replace any word that is really Hindi. Decide which terms stay in English and whether dates use Devanagari digits. About 150 spoken words a minute is a fair guide.
- 3
Run the four tests
The cha and La line, the mixed-language line, the five rendering words, and the dates. Drop any tool that reads Marathi like Hindi.
- 4
For a drawn explainer, paste and keep your wording
In openCanviz, paste the script, choose Keep my wording, pick whiteboard or doodle on paper, set the length, and preview one scene with narration before building the rest.
- 5
Record your own voice if it sounds like Hindi
Record the narration on a phone in a quiet room and replace the generated voice. For teaching, your own Marathi is usually the best option.
- 6
Check every label and date
Pause on each scene, keep on-screen words few, and confirm La and the eyelash ra appear correctly. Fix labels in the editor.

Common questions
If a tool supports Hindi, does it support Marathi? Not necessarily. Sharing a script means it will accept Marathi text, not that it will pronounce it correctly or draw ळ. Look for Marathi listed by name, then run the sounds test.
Which tool has the most natural Marathi voice? Test Sarvam Bulbul, ElevenLabs v3 and Clipchamp with the चहा and शाळा line and ask a Marathi speaker to listen. Your own recorded voice is still often the most natural, and it is free.
Can I make a Marathi version of my English videos automatically? Not with YouTube auto dubbing, which does not cover Marathi. HeyGen's video translation lists Marathi. Otherwise switch the narration language and check every line, or record the Marathi narration yourself.
Are AI-made Marathi videos allowed on YouTube? Yes. YouTube's concern is mass-produced, repetitive content with no original contribution. A lesson built from your own notes, in your own words, is original work whichever tool drew or voiced it.
Listen to one word first
Paste the word chaha, written in Devanagari as in this post, into the voice you are considering. If it says ch instead of ts, it is reading Marathi as Hindi, so record that narration yourself. It is free to start.
Turn any concept into an animated explainer
Type an outline, get a narrated, animated whiteboard video in minutes. No design skills, no timeline scrubbing. Free to start.
