How to Convert PowerPoint Slides Into a Video

To turn PowerPoint slides into an animated explainer video, use a document-first tool: paste your slide text, get a narrated draft where each idea becomes a scene, then edit.

To turn your PowerPoint slides into an animated explainer video, use a document-first workflow. You take the content from your deck, the slide titles, the bullet points, the speaker notes, and hand it to openCanviz, which drafts the whole narrated video: each idea becomes a scene, the narration is written to match, and the drawing is paced to the voiceover. You are not exporting slides as static frames. You are turning the argument in your deck into an animation you then refine.

There is an important distinction here. Exporting a PowerPoint as a video gives you your slides on a timer, the same static layouts, just playing automatically. A document-first tool does something different: it reads the meaning of your slides and redraws each concept as animation. Your bullet points become spoken explanation, and your diagrams become drawn ones.

The steps

  1. 1

Pull the content out of your deck

Copy the slide titles, bullets, and especially the speaker notes, since notes often hold the real explanation.

  2. 2

Paste it into openCanviz in slide order so the scenes follow your deck's flow.

  3. 3

    Draft the video

The full narrated video is planned at once, roughly one scene per slide idea.

  4. 4

    Watch it through

Slides that crammed in five bullets will read as rushed scenes worth splitting.

  5. 5

    Edit scene by scene

Split dense slides, rewrite narration, swap a chart for a drawn version, or restyle a scene.

  6. 6

Export the finished video and share it or upload it wherever it needs to live.

Speaker notes are gold

Your notes often contain the sentences you would actually say out loud. Paste those alongside the bullets and the drafted narration will sound far more natural.

What the output looks like

The result is a narrated whiteboard animation, not a recorded slideshow. Where a slide had three bullets, the video draws each point as the narrator reaches it, so a viewer follows the idea unfolding instead of reading ahead. A chart on a slide can become a drawn diagram that builds up piece by piece, which holds attention far better than a static image sitting on screen.

Because every scene is editable, a busy slide is not a problem. You split it into two calmer scenes, and the pacing fixes itself.

Slides that convert well, and slides that do not

Slide typeHow it converts
Title plus a few bulletsClean single scene, one idea
Slide with speaker notesBest case: notes become narration
Dense wall of textSplit into two or three scenes
Pure image or screenshotRedraw as a diagram, or narrate around it
Appendix or reference slidesUsually cut for a tighter video

The pattern is the same as any document-first conversion: one idea per scene. A tight deck converts almost directly. A kitchen-sink deck needs a trim first, and that trimming makes the video better anyway.

Common questions

Can I just export my PowerPoint as a video instead? You can, but you get your static slides on a timer with no narration and no animation of the concepts. A document-first tool gives you a drawn, narrated explainer, which is a different and more engaging output.

Do the slide visuals carry over exactly? No, and that is intentional. The content carries over and gets redrawn as animation. If you need pixel-exact brand slides, keep those in PowerPoint. For an explainer people actually watch, the redraw is the point.

How is this different from a manual whiteboard editor? A manual editor would have you rebuild every scene from your deck by hand. Here the first draft is made for you from the deck's content, and you edit rather than assemble. See how to make a whiteboard animation video fast.
