Editing

Edit a cartoon skit

Rewrite a skit's lines, gestures and faces, change costumes and places, and build a custom look for a character.

Last updated

Cartoon skits have two editing tools of their own in the editor toolbar: Edit script for what the characters say and do, and Change look for how the characters and places look. Both act the skit out again with your changes.

These buttons only appear on skit projects. Everything else in the editor, such as moving things on the canvas, works the same as in other videos. See Edit a scene.

Edit the script

Click Edit script (tooltip "Rewrite lines, gestures and faces in this skit"). The Edit the script window lists every line, scene by scene. For each line you can change:

FieldWhat it sets
WhoWhich character says the line.
LineThe words they say.
GestureHow they move while saying it. Natural is the default.
FaceTheir expression. From the line lets the line decide.

You can also:

  • Cut this line to remove it. Click again (Keep this line) to bring it back before you apply.
  • Add a line after this one, or use Add a line at the start of a scene.

When you are done, click Act it out again. The button shows how many changes you made, for example Act it out again (3 changes). The skit is acted out again with your script. Lines you left alone keep their voice.

Hand edits are replaced

Acting the skit out again, from either Edit script or Change look, replaces any changes you made by hand in that skit. Make script and look changes first, then do hand edits last.

Change the look

Click Change look (tooltip "Change costumes, animals or places in this skit"). The Change the look window has two parts.

Characters. For each character you can pick:

  • Animal, to play the character as an animal.
  • Costume, to change what they wear.
  • Build look, to design the character yourself (see below).

Scenes. For each scene you can pick the Place, Time and Weather.

Click Apply N change(s) to finish. As the window says: "The story and every line stay the same; the skit is acted out again with what you pick here. Changes you made by hand in this skit are replaced."

Build a character's look

Build look opens the character builder. Choose:

  • Body and Age
  • Beard, Skin and Hair
  • Top and Bottom
  • Glasses
  • Logo on shirt, which puts your logo on their top. This needs a logo in your brand kit, which you set up on the Account page under Brand kit.

Voices and language

Each character in a skit has their own voice, and a skit speaks the language your text is in. Skits cannot be re-voiced into another language yet: the Re-voice in another language… option does not support them. See Re-voice in another language.

Making a new skit

Skits are made from the Cartoon skit card on the create screen, and they skip the plan step and go straight to building. To change the story itself in a bigger way than the script editor allows, start a new skit from Create. See Ways to start.
