Editing
Edit a scene
Select, move, retype and restyle what is on screen, and manage scenes from the Scenes panel.
Last updated
Every scene in the editor is editable by hand: click something to select it, drag to move or resize it, and double-click text to retype it. The Scenes panel on the left is where you add, duplicate, rename and delete whole scenes.
Editing on the canvas
- Select: click an element. When several are selected, a toolbar appears with Group (Ctrl+G), Duplicate (Ctrl+D) and Delete (Del).
- Move or resize: drag the element or its handles.
- Change text: double-click it and type.
- More options: right-click an element for Copy, Duplicate, Bring to Front, Send to Back, Lock/Unlock, Group/Ungroup, Delete and Save as Preset.
- Lines and arrows: right-click a line for Flip Direction, the line type (Straight, Curved, Elbowed) and arrowheads.
This step or all steps
A scene plays as a series of steps, and an element can sit in a different place in each one. That is how things move. When you change an element's position in the properties panel, you choose where the change applies:
- This step (N): only the step you are on. The element will now travel to its new spot during the scene.
- All steps: everywhere the element appears, so its motion is kept and just shifted.
After moving something you may also see Also Apply to Previous Steps. The right-click menu has step options too: Add to Next Step, Add to All Steps and Delete from Current Step. To change how long a step lasts, use the timeline, see The timeline.
Adding things to a scene
The rail on the right has these panels:
| Panel | What it does |
| Insert element | Shapes, icons, Lottie animations and presets, plus Equation (LaTeX), Function plot, Isometric block and 3D mesh (rotatable). You can upload images, SVG, and mp4, webm or mov clips, as a tile in the scene or as a background behind the drawing. |
| Templates | Drop in a ready-made scene layout. |
| Canvas style | Size, background and visual style, including Captions and Sketch style toggles. |
| Narration | The voice-over for each step. See Narration and voice. |
| View | Zoom, grid, outline and motion-path toggles. |
The Scenes panel
Open it with the Scenes pill on the left. New scene adds an empty scene at the end. Right-click a scene for:
- Rename, Duplicate (adds a copy named "(copy)"), Insert scene after
- Delete scene. There is no confirmation. The last remaining scene cannot be deleted.
- Regenerate scene, Undo rebuild and Edit with AI…, covered in Regenerate scenes and pictures and Edit with AI.
Scenes cannot be dragged into a new order in this panel. To reorder chapters, use Edit outline at the top of the panel, which opens the full plan editor.
Transitions between scenes
Between two scenes there is a small chip that reads ⌁ cut by default. Click it to choose Cut, Fade, Slide, Push, Aside, Wipe, Block or Morph, and set a duration from 100 to 2000 ms.
Saving and undo
Changes save automatically about two seconds after you make them. Undo with Cmd/Ctrl+Z and redo with Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Z. See Undo, saving and backups.
Quick fixes are free
Editing by hand never costs credits, and on the Free plan it does not use up your scene rebuilds.
