Making a video
The plan step
Review and change the plan of scenes before anything is drawn, then press Make my video to build it.
Last updated
After you press the draft button, openCanviz writes a plan: one row per scene, each with a title and the narration spoken over it. Nothing is drawn until you press Make my video, so this is the cheapest place to shape the video.
Drafting a plan is free. Credits are only spent when you press Make my video.
While the plan is being written
The draft button shows what is happening, for example the page being fetched for a link, or Working…. You can draft up to 20 plans per account per day. If you hit that limit, you see a message saying so, and you can try again the next day (UTC).
Reading the plan screen
At the top you see:
- Back to topic, which returns you to the create screen.
- Summary chips: the format, the number of chapters and the minutes; Grounded in your source if you pasted text or a link; Landscape 16:9 or Vertical 9:16; and Written in followed by the language, such as "Written in English".
- A box headed Here's the plan, which reminds you what you can change.
Check the chips first. If the language or the aspect ratio is wrong, it is quicker to fix now than after the build. See Length, shape and aspect ratio.
Changing the scenes
Each row is one scene. On any row you can:
- Reorder it: drag the handle on the left.
- Rename it: edit the Title field.
- Rewrite what is said: edit the narration field ("What this chapter says (narration)…"). This text is what the voice reads.
- Change the kind of scene: use the scene-type menu.
- Pick a layout for list scenes: auto, rows, cards, numbered, columns or steps.
- Pick how a picture appears for picture scenes, with the Reveal menu: Auto, Uncover, Sweep, One thing at a time, Write on or Fade up.
- Regenerate it: click Regenerate this chapter to have the AI write that row again.
- Delete it: click Delete chapter.
To add a scene, click Add chapter at the bottom. A row called "New chapter" appears for you to fill in.
The theme menu at the top of the plan sets the visual theme. Changing it restyles the whole video when it is built.
Shorter plan, fewer credits
The credit cost follows the length of the plan. Deleting a scene or trimming long narration lowers the number on the Make my video button.
Making the video
The button at the bottom reads Make my video, followed by the estimated minutes and credits, for example "Make my video · ~3 min · 21 credits". The numbers update as you edit the plan. Building costs 7 credits per minute of video.
Press it to start the build. You are taken to the Projects page while the video is made. See While your video builds.
If you don't have enough credits, you see a message with how many the video needs and how many you have, plus options to shorten the plan or get more credits. See Plans and credits.
Coming back later
When the plan box says "The plan is saved in your account, so you can come back to it.", your plan and your edits to it are kept on your account. You can close the tab and return to it from Your plans on the create screen. See Saved plans.
Cartoon skits skip this step
If you chose Cartoon skit, there is no plan to review. Make the skit starts the build straight away. You can change the lines afterwards with Edit script in the editor. See Editing a cartoon skit.
Changing the plan after the build
Once a video exists, open it in the editor and use Edit outline in the Scenes panel to change its plan. See Regenerating scenes and pictures.
