Public links and embeds
Turn on link sharing so anyone can watch your video without an account, and embed the player on a web page or in notes.
Last updated
To let anyone watch your video, turn on Link sharing in the project's Share dialog and copy the Watch link. Anyone with the link can watch, no account needed. The same dialog gives you an embed snippet for putting the player on a web page.
Projects are private by default, so nothing is public until you turn it on.
Turn on link sharing
- Open the Share dialog: in the editor, More then Share, or Share from a card's menu on the Projects page.
- Switch on Link sharing. The dialog confirms: "Anyone with the link can watch this, no account needed."
- Copy the Watch link.
You can also use Make public or Make private from a card's menu on the Projects page. The Public and Private chips on that page filter your projects by this setting.
Copy share link in the card menu copies the link directly. If the project is still private, you see a reminder that others need it to be public to view it.
What viewers see
The watch link opens a page with the video, its title, a Public chip and Copy link. Visitors who are not the owner see Make your own. As the owner, you see Open in Editor.
When you paste the link in Slack, LinkedIn or X, it shows the video's title and poster.
Make it private again
Switch Link sharing off, or choose Make private on the Projects page. The dialog then reads: "Only you and the people above can open this." Anyone who opens the old link sees "Diagram not found". People you invited by email keep their access. See Sharing with people.
Embed the player
The Embed section of the Share dialog gives you two things to copy:
- Embed URL: the player's address on its own.
- Iframe snippet: ready to paste into a web page.
The Autoplay and Loop boxes are ticked to start with. Untick Autoplay if the video should wait for a click. Untick Loop to make it play once. The snippet looks like this:
<iframe src="EMBED_URL" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>Link sharing must be on
An embed only plays while link sharing is on. Otherwise the embed shows Diagram not found.
The dialog also suggests pasting the iframe in an Obsidian note and switching to Reading Mode.
Embed URL options
You can add these to the end of the Embed URL to change how the player behaves:
| Option | Effect |
autoplay=1 | Starts playing on load |
loop=0 | Plays once instead of looping |
controls=0 | Hides the player controls |
speed=1.5 | Sets the playback speed (any number) |
aspect=16:9 | Sets the player's aspect ratio |
bg=transparent | Uses a transparent background |
Start the first option with ? and join further ones with &. If the copied URL already contains a ?, use & for everything you add.
